The State of the Border with Mexico

Event Description:
Gil Kerlikowske, former Commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), will join the Institute to discuss migrations flow, border security, and trade with Mexico.

Gil Kerlikowske is currently a Fellow at the Institute of Politics at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.  He served as Commissioner, U.S. Customs and Border Protection from 2014-2017. CBP has 60,000 employees throughout the world and includes Customs and Border Protection Officers at our Ports of Entry and the U.S. Border Patrol between the Ports. CBP is responsible for securing our borders and facilitating lawful trade and travel. 

Mr. Kerlikowske served as the Director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy from 2009-2014. Prior to that he was the Chief of Police in Seattle from 2000-2009. He also served in the Department Justice under Attorney General Janet Reno and was Police Commissioner in Buffalo.

He was elected twice as President of the Major Cities Chiefs Association, the largest municipal police departments in the U.S. and Canada. He is the recipient of numerous awards and is a U.S. Army veteran where he received the Presidential Service Badge.
