Event Description Nobel prize winner and world leader in molecular biology research, Phillip Sharp, Ph.D., will speak about recent discoveries in biology and their translation to benefit society. Dr. Sharp is Institute Professor at Massachusetts Institute of Technology where his research focuses on molecular biology of gene expression relevant to cancer. He earned a Nobel Prize in 1993 for his discovery of split genes and RNA splicing.
Dr. Sharp earned a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, completing his doctoral training at the California Institute of Technology. Prior to working at MIT, he was senior scientist at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. He co-founded Biogen, a biotechnology company, as well as Alnylam Pharmaceuticals, an early stage therapeutics company.
