Event Description John Hofmeister, former President of Shell Oil Company, will join the Institute to discuss the topic: Private Energy Investment Is All the Stimulus the Economy Needs: How Do We Do It? and his new role as Founder and Chief Executive of Citizens for Affordable Energy, Inc.
Following his retirement from Shell Oil Company in 2008, Hofmeister founded and currently heads the group Citizens for Affordable Energy. This organization works to provide practical energy and environmental information and education to citizens from all walks of life across the U.S. More specifically, it also contributes to the development of public policy at federal and state levels to promote more energy from all sources, more infrastructures for energy transportation and storage, more technology for energy efficiency and more environmental protection for clean land, water and air.
Hofmeister is Chairman of the National Urban League; Chairman of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Hydrogen Technology and Fuel Cell Advisory Committee; and serves on the board of the Gas Technology Institute. He also serves on the boards of Hunting, Lufkin Industries, CAMAC Energy, and Sodexo North America. He has also held executive leadership positions at GE, AlliedSignal (now Honeywell International) and Northern Telecom.
Hofmeister has degrees in Political Science from Kansas State University and was awarded a Doctorate of Letters from the University of Houston. He is currently a Wrigley Scholar in the Global Institute of Sustainability at Arizona State University. John is the author of Why We Hate the Oil Companies: Straight Talk from an Energy Insider (Palgrave MacMillan 2010). |
