Doing Business with a Mission: The Promise and Perils of For-Profit Social Enterprise
Start Date: 3/21/2017Start Time: 8:00 AM
End Date: 3/21/2017End Time: 9:30 AM

Event Description:

Social enterprise is a recent development in which organizations seek to provide welfare benefits in a businesslike manner. Although many social enterprises are traditional nonprofits, some have adopted the for-profit form in order to realize their social mission more effectively. As for-profit businesses, social enterprises must compete successfully in a crowded market with traditional nonprofits and government welfare services, in addition to standard for-profit companies. This presentation provides an economic analysis of the market opportunities for pursuing a social mission in the for-profit form and a legal analysis of the governance problems confronting for-profit social enterprises.
